The Dow were up 4 points at 11000. It seems like rally fades, but Dow holds above 11000.
The Dow finished Friday at 11,006, its first close above 11,000 since May, as investors bet that the Fed is about to engage in a new round of quantitative easing.
That bet was still at play today, traders said, even with the bond market closed.
Traders will get key economic reports at the end of the week, including data on inflation, retail sales and consumer sentiment, that could influence trading. The Fed has said part of the reason it might buy bonds is to get inflation more in line with historical levels.
Chip and energy shares move higher. Gymboree will go private in a $1.8 billion deal.
Gold settled up $9.10 to $1,354.40 an ounce after hitting a new intraday high of $1,356.30. The dollar was up slightly to 77.665.
